Premplantation Genetic Diagnosis (PGD) is a technique used to identify Genetic Defects in Embryo done in major genetic condition in man& woman before embryo transfer (IVF).
Preimplantation genetic screening (PGS) refers to techniques where embryos are screened for Aneuploidy before ET to improve successful pregnancy rate in IVF
Primary Candidates for PGS can include the following:
Women of advanced maternal age > 35 years
Couples with history of Recurrent Pregnancy Loss couples & Repeated IVF failure
Severe Male Factor infertility
PLEASE NOTE:
PGS / PGD improve implantation rate in women with high risk of aneuplody & abnormal parental genetic abnormalities. However.
PGS should NOT be performed to select the best embryo for transfer in couple with NO KNOWN CHROMOSOMAL or GENETIC ABNORMALITY.
In them prenatal screening and diagnosis still is a good option.
